Movement Laboratory is a movement coaching studio rooted in one idea: your body is worth understanding.

We bring together exercise science and somatic practices, not to "optimize" you — but to actually get to know you: how you move, why you move, and what your body is trying to tell you when it does.

Mvmt Classes

Move. Play. Create.

Throughout class, you'll engage with various movement prompts & games designed to encourage play-like responses that challenge your creativity & deepen your relationship to movement. This is a guided class for you to experience as an autonomous mover. The instructor will provide a brief warm-up to ensure all bodies are prepared for movement, then shift to offering invitations & soft direction for you to explore & engage with independently or as a group.

Using body-weight exercises that are informed by dance & somatic practices, this class explores the muscular engagement that translates strength into fluid movements. Open to movers of all levels. Modifications available as needed.

Explore Movement. Indulge in the Vibes.

Class begins with a warm-up designed to engage & prepare your body, your brain, and your musicality. As we move into our phrasework, we'll give time & space to learning, embodying, and playing with the movement. Phrases are invitations, rather than directions — don't be afraid to let whatever else informs your movement shine through! This class is primarily catered to experienced movers (particularly dancers), but is open to anyone feeling called to join!

Stephanie, founder of Movement Laboratory

Movement has been at the center of my world & my fascination for as long as I can remember. Some may call it a life-long hyper-fixation. I call it that too, but I also just call it passion.

At 3 years old, I was demanding to be put in dance classes. By 6, I was doing it competitively. Later, I went to a performing arts high school for dance. By junior year, I was enrolling in evening classes at my local community college to learn any & everything I could about how we move. I went on to earn a B.F.A. in Dance and a B.S. in Exercise Science from SUNY Brockport — a.k.a. I found a way to make "obsessing over human movement" into a legitimate academic pathway, and now, into a career (although, I just refer to is as my life's purpose).

With my unending fascination, insatiable curiosity, and life-long passion, I continue to seek out gems of knowledge and experience to add to my collection wherever I can. I am always eager to share my knowledge with whoever will let me.

Movement Laboratory has been my way of building the space I always wished existed — and sharing everything I've collected along the way with every Mover who walks through the door.

My mission is to support as many Movers as I can on their movement journeys – regardless of background, experience level, goals, restrictions, or anything else.

Movement is an inherent part of the human experience (you're literally moving right now, scrolling through this page). If you have a body, you ARE a Mover.

Coaching

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable & confident moving in! Avoid anything that restricts your movement, is uncomfortable, or could otherwise distract or detract from your experience.

Socks are required & slip-on shoes are recommended. Coaching sessions happen barefoot (in socks) — shoes must be removed prior to entering the Training Studio or Mvmt Studio. Shoes are permitted in the lobby, hallway, and bathroom.

Sessions can be booked through the PushPress Members app, in-person, or by contacting the studio at (848) 305-6516 (text or call).

Online booking closes 2 hours prior to appointment start time. For last-minute availability, please text or call the studio directly.

Standard availability:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10am – 7pm
  • Thursday: 2pm – 7pm

For alternative availability including Saturdays, please contact the studio. Sessions must be paid for at time of booking.

12-Hour Cancellation / Rescheduling Policy

Sessions cancelled or rescheduled 12+ hours prior to start time have no cancellation penalty. Sessions cancelled or rescheduled within 12 hours are subject to loss of session credit.

Late Arrival Policy

Late arrivals may result in a late cancellation if you've missed 50% or more of your reserved time. When possible, your Mvmt Coach may still accommodate you — either by abbreviating or shifting the appointment. Full credit will still be charged for abbreviated sessions.

If you've missed 25% of your reserved time without notice, your Mvmt Coach will reach out to confirm whether they can accommodate a full or abbreviated session, or if you'll need to reschedule. Rescheduled sessions in this case will be treated as late cancellations.

  • All sessions are valid for 90 days from their purchase date, unless otherwise agreed upon (such as with Personal Mvmt Programs).
  • All sales are final & ineligible for refund.
  • If you're unable to use sessions you've purchased, please email contact@mvmt-lab.com to discuss your options.
Classes

Unless otherwise stated, all classes are taken barefoot (with or without socks). Shoes are not permitted in the Mvmt Studio.

Optional considerations:

  • Slip-on shoes (for use in lobby, hallway & bathrooms)
  • Layers (for warm-up and/or floorwork)
  • Kneepads (for floorwork)
